Walking Photo Exhibit - Euromaidan/Revolution of Dignity 9 years later

Walking Photo Exhibit - Euromaidan/Revolution of Dignity 9 years later

For many in the West, the Russian war against Ukraine began last year, when Russian forces invaded, supposedly with a plan to seize Kyiv in 3 days. In actuality, this war began in the Spring of 2014, shortly after the Ukrainian people rose up against their corrupt, pro-Putin government in the Revolution of Dignity.

In May of 2014, I was lucky enough to travel to Kyiv to bear witness to the historical events that had just recently unfolded. The 21 photos in this display show the Maidan as it still looked, with scars still visible in the shape of barricades, encampments, destroyed vehicles, the burned Trade Union building, and most importantly, the people.  People came from across Ukraine to defend their freedom and this is visible in the encampments, you will see the names of regions and cities on the tents.  100 civilians were killed by government forces, who used snipers and provocateurs against what had been a peaceful demonstration. In the end, in February 2014, the corrupt leadership fled to Russia, and Putin shortly thereafter, annexed Crimea and began the war in the East of the country, setting in motion the horrors we have witnessed since last February.
