‘Ship Master’ is a real story with real prototypes. In the plot, you can recognize the artistic bohemians of that time: director Oleksandr Dovzhenko, director of Odesa and Kyiv film factories Pavlo Neches, artist, architect, one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, Vasyl Krychevskyi. This is the story of creativity, love, the stormy era of the emergence of cinema and life in Odessa at the beginning of the last century.
