Gilyarovsky was undoubtedly one of the brightest figures in Moscow at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. From it, Repin painted one of the Cossacks writing a letter to the Turkish Sultan. He was not only a Moscow legend, but also a chronicler of Moscow.
