Victor Erofeev (born in 1947) is a Russian writer, literary critic, TV and radio presenter. His novel 'Russian Beauty' was written in the early 1980s, but was published only in 1989, because it turned out to be too frank for the then Soviet society. But even later, in the era of perestroika, the book caused a storm of indignation and sharp criticism: telling the story of the provincial Irina Tarakanova, who came to conquer Moscow, the author does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. And since the story is told on behalf of the heroine, who plunges headlong into a promiscuous sex life, it is clear that the novel was a real shock for the inhabitants of the USSR, a country where 'there was no sex.' However, later the book was translated into more than 30 languages, received recognition around the world, and a film was made based on it. Times have changed, and it seems that modern readers will treat the novel 'Russian Beauty' as a real masterpiece.
