The heroes of Algerd Bakharevich's novel are Belarusian-speaking children, patients of a mysterious institution called the Camp. Here they are trying to ‘cure’ them of their Belarusian accent and deprive them of their Belarusian identity. The heroes escape from the Camp into the forest, like modern Hansel and Gretel. There, they are not at all waiting for children's adventures. A fairy tale, a satire, a dystopia - the book can be attributed to each of these genres, but it will still remain a book about us, those who live here and now.
