PEASANT QUARREL A Study of Rural Everyday Life (based on materials from the European part of Russia, second half of the XIX — beginning of the XX c.) This book problematizes everyday quarrel as a type of social interaction in Russian peasant society of the late 19th and early 20th c. The author argues that quarrel may be used as a new lens for the understanding of social relations in peasant families and peasant society at large after the emancipation of the serfs of 1861 and the judicial reforms of the 1860s. The study begins with “Peasant Quarrel: Historico-Anthropological Perspective”, where the author discusses the existing historical sources and materials that contain descriptions and interpretations of peasant quarrel. This chapter points to and explains the virtual lack of scholarly attention to this important type of peasant interaction.
