The new work by Moscow historian S.A. Shumov is the first complete documentary description of the main monastic orders of Western Europe from the 5th to the beginning of the 21st century, both male and female, constructed as a systematic and most complete collection of testimonies of contemporaries, as well as research by leading Western and Russian historians of religion and monasticism.
